Authors do not write a non-fiction book until they have the contract in hand, complete with advance. So how do non-traditional authors -- chefs, attorneys, consultants, and perhaps even companies -- get a book deal? They convince a publisher of the quality of the content and the profit potential of their book. They package their "product," in this case a book idea, to sell it before it is written.
The market for how-to, cookbooks and other guides remains strong. Sometimes co-marketing plans help guarantee strong sales to a publisher, while other books stand on their own.
I represent selected professionals who have a book idea that carries a strong message. In some cases I simply act as an agent, in others I will package the book for sale to a publisher.
In addition, I work with companies who realize that a book gets them millions of exposures for practically nothing. If you are not sure what kind of book would work for you I have ideas and suggestions, based on what publishers are looking for. A good example is the Bob's Red Mill book, and another deal for an Italian cookbook about to be announced.
If you have an idea, experience or a national product drop an e-mail and let's talk. I'll listen to what you have in mind and tell you whether or not I might be able to help. My help could take the form of some one-time practical advice ... or it could mean developing your project and pitching it to a publisher on your behalf.
Unfortunately, I cannot accept every project. Even if your project isn't for me, I may be able to offer some free advice about your next step. I guarantee absolute confidentiality. I do not handle any fiction except in rare cases where it can be co-marketed, and those are usually books for children.
If you have a project I hope to hear from you.
